Assignment 1-Working with Word The purpose of this assignment was to practice producing a Word document. The document that was produced was an introductory letter that will be appropriate for the beginning of the term. It introduced myself and the course to students and parents. Assignment 2-Excel This assignment allowed me to practice utilizing Excel in conjunction with Word to produce charts and graphs that I can utilize in instruction, Assign2_NHerman.xls Assign2_NHerman.doc
Assignment 3- Evaluations In the third assignment I was asked to evaluate Instructional Software, a website which would be applicable in my subject area (history) and a Virtual Tour. The instructional software I chose was Downloadlearning.com and I specifically evaluated the history portion. The website evaluated was http://www.pbs.org/wnet/jimcrow/stories.html; this site educated and had students participate in activities which dealt with the Jim Crow Laws. The Virtual Tour gave participants a virtual tour of the Holy Land (as it would nearly impossible to take students on such a field trip). Each of these technological resources provided extensions from the traditional way of teaching. They provided students with hands on ways of learning the material. Assign3_NHerman.doc
Assignment 4- Concept Mapping This assignment familiarized me with how to make a concept map. I learned how to use Inspiration and discovered ways that it could be used within my classroom. Assignment 5- Classroom Website When I completed the classroom website I learned how to appropriately communicate with parents and students through the internet. I used Weebly to compose a class website. On my Weebly site I was able to utilize Google Calendar to keep students and parents informed of important class dates. http://msherman.weebly.com/index.html
Assignment 6- Webquest The Webquest assignment allowed me to develop an activity for an eighth grade history classroom. I utilized Wikispaces and relevant sites to put together a group assignment for students which satisfied many of the Michigan eighth grade Social Studies standards. http://nherman.wikispaces.com/introduction
Assignment 7- Podcast and Lesson Plan I created a lesson plan and podcast which would be utilized in conjunction with my webquest. I used Audacity to record audio of directions and an example of how to create an effective persuasive speech (following the Webquest). This assignment extended the standards that were covered. Assignment 8- Digital Video The Digital Video assignment required using MovieMaker software and Audacity software to complete a comprehensive digital video.
